NLU Natural Language Understanding
NLU is part of NLP. NLU is the part that focuses on understanding humans. Whereas NLG is kind-of the opposite, which focuses on translating machine understanding into human understandable information.
NLU deals with ambiguity, syntax, and semantics. NLU t provides machines with the ability to interpret and extract meaning from human language. It enables systems to understand the intent behind linguistic input.
Key models and techniques
- Transformers
- BERT: Bidirectional attention for sentence meaning.
- T5: treats all tasks as text-to-text
- GPT: conversational understanding and generation
- Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs)
- Word Embeddings: Word2Vec, Glove
